‘Temporary Immersive Environments’ is a collection of projects focused on researching the inherent spatial qualities of immersive virtual environments and their effect on people. Exploring the state of immersion and the perception of presence in a non-phyiscal world, these experiments signify the threshold between the virtual simulacrum space and the physical space where the viewer stands. Through the presented framework, the experiments intend to question the relativity of perception and how it informs the apprehension of our surroundings.
In this particular edition, Liminal Room, explores this threshold and the poetics of space using contemporary algorithms. In a radcial effort to deconstruct the framework of an illusory space and transgress the boundaries of the viewing experience, Liminal Room sets out to transform the conventional flat cinema projection screen into a three dimensional kinetic and architectonic space of visualization. This project is based on the ‘Infinity Room’ installation and was previously exhibited at the Istanbul Biennale with support of Zorlu Holding, Zorlu Performans Sanatları and Artinyo.
