The visualization of data holds the ability to enhance and transform people’s lives and their everyday interactions with each other. At the forefront of manufacturing, Siemens relies on the interpretation of data to analyze and improve the performance of their products. One of these primary technologies includes the engineering of trains that the company has produced for over 150 years. Most recently, they began investing methods in data analytics to predict failure, support passenger experience, and maximize efficiency. Art of Intelligence used sensor data from these trains and attempted to re-interpret it to create an artwork that would make visually tangible the potential of such analytic systems. The work also utilized datasets based on these technologies’ environmental impacts. Refik Anadol Studio employed special software to process the data and projected the resulting artwork on a custom LED screen to showcase an alternate means of perceiving these systems.
